**Thousands in Philippines Protest Corruption, Demand Justice**
Thousands of Filipinos gathered in Manila on Sunday, December 1, to protest against government corruption and call for the return of allegedly stolen public funds. The demonstration took place outside the Philippine Senate, drawing people from different sectors of society, including students, workers, and members of the Catholic Church.
This protest was sparked by recent reports accusing top legislators of misusing millions in government funds through fake projects. The protesters are demanding that the current administration move quickly to investigate and prosecute those involved. Some participants carried signs reading, “Bring back our money” and “Justice for the people.”
Church leaders, including bishops and priests, joined the crowd, giving speeches and urging honesty and accountability from public officials. The Catholic Church plays a large role in Philippine society and has historically supported movements against corruption and misuse of power.
Police officers were present to manage the large crowd, but the protest remained peaceful. Organizers estimated around 10,000 people took part. Many also wore black shirts to show unity and mourning for lost public funds that could have supported education, healthcare, and housing.
This protest follows growing public frustration over a lack of progress in government-led anti-corruption efforts. The Philippine Senate confirmed it is investigating several allegations involving the misuse of development funds meant for poor communities. No formal charges have been filed yet, but citizens say they will continue to speak out until action is taken.
In a brief statement, a spokesperson for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government is taking the claims seriously and welcomes public participation in promoting clean governance. Officials also asked for time to complete the investigations according to legal procedures.
Citizens have promised to hold more rallies in the coming weeks if no clear progress is made. The protesters say they want justice, accountability, and the return of stolen money to the public.
The demonstration is one of the largest public calls for anti-corruption reforms in the Philippines in recent years and signals growing demand for transparency in the nation’s leadership.
