**Nebraska Huskers Secure No. 1 Seed, Begin NCAA Tournament vs Long Island**
The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s volleyball team has officially earned the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will begin their postseason journey facing Long Island University (LIU) in the first round. The announcement came Sunday, November 30, within the past 24 hours, as the NCAA revealed the 64-team bracket.
The Huskers, who completed a dominant regular season with a 28-1 record, secured one of the top spots thanks to consistent high-level performance and notable wins throughout the year. Nebraska will host LIU in Lincoln, Nebraska, where the opening rounds of the tournament will take place. The match will be held on Friday night.
Long Island University comes into the tournament as the Northeast Conference (NEC) champion, posting a strong showing in their conference tournament to earn an automatic bid. Despite a lower national ranking, LIU is expected to bring determined play as they attempt to challenge one of the strongest teams in the nation.
Nebraska’s placement as the No. 1 seed gives them home-court advantage through the regionals, should they continue advancing. If they win their first match, the Huskers will next face the winner of the Missouri vs Delaware State match in the second round.
Nebraska Head Coach John Cook praised his team’s focus and preparation throughout the season, emphasizing the importance of taking each game seriously. “We respect every opponent,” Cook said in a media release Sunday night. “We’ve earned a great setup, but we know the work is just beginning.”
The Huskers are aiming for their first national title since 2017. With a strong lineup including All-Americans and experienced players, the team is widely considered a favorite to go far in the tournament.
The final rounds of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament, including the national championship, will be held in Louisville, Kentucky later in December. Nebraska fans, known for their strong support, are expected to fill the arena during home games early in the tournament.
As the excitement builds, both Nebraska and LIU are now focused on preparing for Friday’s opening match, which marks the start of what could be a thrilling postseason run.
